Workshop reports To date there have been two key workshops in Canada. The first took place in White Point, NS in February 2002, and was spearheaded by Dr. Ellen Kenchington from Bedford Institute of Oceanography's Centre for Marine Biodiversity. The meeting involved some 70 participants from across Canada, with particularly strong representation from DFO. A report from that meeting, entitled “Three Oceans of Biodiversity,”. The report prioritizes the key areas for research in biodiversity in Canada, and the meeting itself was very helpful in promoting efforts (primarily at DFO) to create a mapping database of biodiversity data – primarily in the Gulf of Maine. The Gulf of Maine Biogeographic Information System (GMBIS) represents one of the most successful programs in CoML to date, and it has generated much excitement. With support from DFO, NSERC and the Sloan Foundation, Dr. Mike Sinclair and Dr. Paul Snelgrove co-chaired a workshop in October in Ottawa 2004. Click here for the Workshop Presentations |
