As a Masters student at the University of New Brunswick, Saint John, my work focuses on community effects of the introduced European Green crab. The introduction of the Green crab could have a dramatic impact on the local marine communities and could translate into impacts on biodiversity and ecosystem function. This, in turn, could have impacts on the aquaculture and fisheries operations in the Southern Gulf of St Lawrence. I will assess the impact of the green crab on soft-bottom eelgrass communities through manipulative field experiments. I will then address some the causal mechanisms at work in this system through statistical controls, namely path analysis and structural equation modeling. My supervisor is Dr. R. Rochette and I am working with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Moncton (Dr. M. Hanson).
