Thesis Title: Effects of fishing on marine sponges: implications for biodiversity
I am interested in role of marine sponges as habitat for other benthic species, as well as the effects of fishing on these habitats. My thesis will compare sponges to other biogenic habitats on the sea floor. I am also collecting bycatch data on sponges from trawl surveys and fishing logs. I am interviewing fishermen to help gain insight into areas of high sponge abundance and changes in sponge abundance over time.
Key Words: sponges, effects of fishing, biodiversity, abundance
