Thesis title: Explaining variation in American lobster (Homarus americanus) distribution and abundance in the northwestern Atlantic.
My doctoral research on American lobster has two main components. The first is to explain the changes in abundance and distribution of North American lobster populations using biological modeling techniques. Variables to be examined include large and small scale climate variation, disease, decline in groundfish abundance, and fishing effort. The second is to quantify ecosystem changes in southwest Nova Scotia in relation to the variation in lobster abundance using traditional fishing knowledge.
