Mr. Shane Gero Shane Gero carries out field studies of cetaceans, principally on the sperm whale, under the supervisor of Dr. Hal Whitehead. Shane’s research focuses on the role of individuality vs. cultural lineage in sperm whale societies by studying behavioural diversity amongst the whales in a unique population off the island of Dominica in the West Indies. Shane received his B.Sc. and his M.Sc. in 2003 and 2005, respectively; and is currently an NSERC Ph.D. Candidate and Killam Scholar in the Biology Department at Dalhousie University.
