Dr. Patrick O'Reilly (Salmon Conservation Biologist)

Patrick O'Reilly is a research scientist with the Diadromous Fish Division, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Bedford Institute of Oceanography, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. His primary responsibility is to carry out genetic analyses of wild and captive Inner Bay of Fundy Atlantic Atlantic salmon , both to prioritize limited conservation efforts and to help implement captive breeding programs designed to minimize loss of genetic variation and loss of wild fitness. Patrick is also actively involved in studies of patterns of temporal and spatial genetic variation at the Atlantic salmon major histocompatability complex, in the Bay fo Fundy area. Another area of interest is analysis of reproductive variance, inbreeding, inbreeding depression in haddock. O'Reilly is also presently involved in population genetic studies of haddock in the Northwest Atlantic ocean.
