Patricia Avendano (MLIS 2007) (student member)
For more than 20 years I have been involved in marine sciences here at Dalhousie University; since early 1990’s in the Ocean Production Enhancement Network then in the Global Ocean Ecosystem Dynamics (GLOBEC) – Canada, Western Bank Program from 1997-2001 with Drs. Ian A. McLaren, C. Taggart. Later with Dr. Jeffrey Hutchings in a biodiversity project of non-commercially species that get caught during commercial operations from 2001-2003. Later collaborated with Dr. Brian K. Hall in developmental biology of fishes.
In 2005 enrolled at the School of Information Management at the Faculty of Management of Dalhousie University with the purpose of obtaining a Master degree with which I could incorporate my vast knowledge of Marine Sciences and the tools of Information Management specializing in the creation of electronic databases. Currently I am at the National Research Council in Ottawa as a project lead in the NPArC pilot project focusing on establishing information architecture, creating metadata schemas and the automatic metadata harvesting for institutional electronic repositories.
