My name is Lindsay Beazley, and I was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I am entering the fourth year of my honours degree in marine biology at Dalhousie University in September 2007. Currently I am working with Dr. Ellen Kenchington, a DFO research scientist at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography, on my honours project. The goal of my project is to discover how different reproductive strategies in deep-sea coral affect their spatial distribution and abundance in Atlantic Canada. In July 2007 I am taking part in a research mission on the Canadian Coast Guard Ship Hudson which will provide important new information on deep-sea coral distribution that I can use in my studies. Working on this project is providing me with excellent exposure to many other research goals dealing with deep-sea corals within our region. I also enjoy many hobbies, including scuba diving and reading. I believe that protecting and conserving Canada’s natural marine ecosystems should be an essential priority.
