I am currently in the United Kingdom as a Marie Curie Research Fellow working with the Scottish Association for Marine Science in Oban, Scotland. My fellowship is primarily directed at describing the biodiversity of deep-water coral ommunities, particularly the sessile epifaunal components. Using a combination of in situ and in vitro experiments, I am also investigating the susceptibility of sessile epifauna to sedimentation and physical damage. I continue to work on the taxonomy of hydroids with the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Maryland, USA to help identify potentially non-native hydroids from the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of North America.
Key Words: hydroids, taxonomy, biodiversity, deep-water corals, sessile epifauna, non-native species
