Mr. Black received his B.Sc. in Biology from the University of Guelph in 1976.
He joined Fisheries and Oceans, Marine Fish Division (MFD) in 1977 and is currently at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. He is a member of the Population Ecology Division (PED) which provides advice on various marine groundfish and invertebrate stocks on the Scotian Shelf. Research interests are focused on a number of species issues, resource mapping and web based data analysis. External involvements include the Ocean Biogeographic Information System (OBIS) for which he is the author of the mapping application ACON currently used to analyze biodiversity data including the Data Collections on this site.
