Mr. Hugues P. Benoît (Fisheries Ecologist)

Mr. Benoît (BSc., University of Calgary, 1996; MSc., Memorial University of Newfoundland, 1999) has worked with the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) since 1999. He began his career at DFO’s Great Lakes Laboratory for Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences working on questions related to zooplankton population dynamics and productivity. Since 2001 he has been in charge of the port sampling program at DFO’s Gulf Fisheries Centre in Moncton. His research has focused on standardizing survey data (research vessel and at-sea observer surveys) to obtain more precise and accurate estimates of fish relative abundance and potential fishery removals, and on factors affecting fish community structure and dynamics.
