Dr. Ellen Kenchington is a Benthic Ecologist/Molecular Geneticist at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography with Fisheries and Oceans, Canada. Dr. Kenchington obtained her degrees from Dalhousie University (B.Sc., M.Sc.) and the University of Tasmania (Ph.D.). Her current research areas include the effects of fishing on benthic ecosystems, marine biodiversity and genetics. Genetic research is done in collaboration with the Marine Gene Probe Lab at Dalhousie University. Current projects include the genetic structure of corals, lobster and scallop. She also teaches an undergraduate course on algae at Dalhousie.
