Christopher M. Hawkins obtained his Bachelors of Science in Marine Biology and Masters of Science in Fish Ecology at the University of Guelph. He pursued a Ph.D. at McGill University with studies on coral reef ecology. Subsequently, he received a postdoctoral fellowship at the then Marine Ecology Laboratory of the Bedford Institute of Oceanography where he researched macro-tidal invertebrate ecology. In addition, Dr. Hawkins obtained a Diploma in Applied Information Technology at ACI now ITI and holds the designation of Associate Computer Professional (ACP). He is experienced in both temperate and tropical marine ecosystems and has published on topics ranging from leatherback sea turtles to soft-shell clams. In 1980, he founded Triton Consultants Limited, a regional marine biological consulting firm. This company has undertaken many projects with government and private industry within the region, nationally and the United States. Most recently, his research interest has included the examination of deep-water benthic communities of the eastern Scotian Shelf using still and video photograph analysis.
