Objectives

a)

Nautilis Server

D.Ricard

  1. Continous operation throughout for CMB and associate partners, including: Atl Ototliths, Atl Sharks, CHONe, CMB, COINAtlantic, NaGISA, OBI07, OBISCanada, OTN, PLoneForScience, RAMlegacy.
  2. Various technical upgrades including: OS, RAM and PLONE.
  3. Hard drive replacement under warranty.
  4. See also item f)
  1. Server is nearing end of original extended warranty.
  2. Amount of interest in this server is quite high which has an associated technical admin burden that is not being accounted for.
  3. Outstanding technical tasks include: creation of standard template for  PLONE3 sites, conversion of CMB to PLONE3, creation of new PLONE3 sites for POKM, BIOOepnHouse and OTNCanada.
  1. Plan deployment of new server including comprehensive support strategy.

b)

OBIS Canada

L.Bajona

T.Worcester

D. Ricard

  1. Lenore expanded OBIS Canada schema to include fields expected to be useful for DFO data analysis.

  2. Lenore and Tana added new resources including: DFO Maritimes Research Vessel Trawl Surveys Fish Observations, DFO Maritimes Research Vessel Trawl Surveys Invertebrate Observations, and DFO Pacific Shrimp Trawl Surveys.

  3. Tana created a Plone based mockup of a theme-based searching and mapping portal.

  4. See also item j) 1.
  1. Obtaining continued DFO NSDMC funding.

  2. Attracting and retaining DFO interest.

  3. DFO Maritimes Research Vessel Trawl Surveys Fish Observations currently does not include information on swept area and data for 2007-8. GCMD metadata record also needs to include stratum statisitics and information on effort correction methods.
  1. Implement theme-based searching mapping portal on DFO's Vitual Data Centre and on CMB's public OBIS Canda site.

c)

OBI07 Proceedings

T.Worcester

  1. Publication ready version of conference proceedings are posted on OBI'07 portal and have been given to E.Vanden Burghen for final approval.

COIN Atlantic

P.Boudreau

  1. Paul successfully used PLONE software for managing the COINAtlantic project in distributed manner.

  2. Paul managed development of on-line search tool for interactive discovery of metadata, data and web services provided by CMB and OBIS and member agencies. This tool is now in in beta testing

  1. COINAtlantic is a new and untried resource.

  2. OBIS entries in the GDP are out of date due to lapse in harvesting between GDP and Global Change Master Directroy (GCMD) portals.

  1. Develop training resources to facilitate the use of available geographic information in Atlantic Canada.

  2. Update relevant OBISCanada entries on GCMD and request GDP to conduct a one off harvest.
  3. Request GDP to develop peer-to-peer searching of GCMD entries thus allowing COINAtlantic to directly find relevant OBISCanada info on GCMD.

  4. Dan and Bob developing R based software to examine and improve quality of citations in discovery metadata.

  1. Limited funding for participation, potential synergy with COINAtlantic services.

  1. Network interoperability for biological sampling information.

  2. Present work to date on R based quality control at GoMODP AGM and other venues.
  3. Continue work on R based quality control including application to other Portals (e.g. OBIS and CoML, OTN), derivation of citation information from elsewhere in metadata records (e.g. Entry_Title and Personnel), and cluster analysis on keyword values.

This committee has overseen development of a OBIS/BOLD metadata capture tool that was used to support this year's Arctic sampling efforts.

  2. Bob assisted CHONe project managers to startup up their PLONe site.

  1. Informal nature of CHONe's data management regieme.

  1. Create formally chaired data management committee.
