Version 1.0 of RAM II srDB: goals and timeline

AIM: To have a quality controlled version of the database that contributors can use for publishable analyses ready by MAY 1st, 2009, along with a primary publication (at least in review) describing the database for users.  This will be the official Version 1.0 of the RAMII srDB. To release the database to the public within 1 1/2 years of this.

CONTENTS: Version 1.0 will comprise over 200 marine fish stock assessments, including all those from:

-Australia (DONE, but need to be QAQC'd)

-DFO (Stocks still needed: Cusk (2008/028); COD 3Ps (2008/029); Mackerel (2008/039); Yellowmouth rockfish (2008/055); Am Plaice 4T (2008/067); + lots of invert stocks.

-TRAC (transboundary stocks on Georges Bank shared by DFO/NEFSC): There are 2008 assessments for HAD 5Zjm, Cod 5ZJm but they are not yet available on the website.

-ICES (DONE and being QAQC'd by Coilin & Simon)

-NAFO (Stocks still needed: Thorny skate (SCR08/43); Witch flounder 3NO (SCR08/39); Greenland halibut 1A Inshore (SCR 08/38); Cod 3M (SCR 08/26); Other finfish (SCR 08/41).

-NMFS: NEFSC (Groundfish 2008 Stocks still needed: Winter flounder Gulf of Maine stock & Georges Bank stock; Acadian redfish - Georges Bank/Gulf of Maine stock; Pollock 5,6 stock; Windowpane flounder Georges Bank/Gulf of Maine stock & SNEMATL stock; White hake - Georges Bank/Gulf of Maine stock; Atlantic halibut stock) + there are others assessed by NEFSC not yet input; SWFSC - Still need to be input; NWFS - DONE, just need to be QAQC'd?; AFSC...., 

-Elasmobranchs: Julia & Laurence

-U.S. State Fisheries? e.g.Striped bass

-Chris Costello: Peru, Mexico, California state fisheries

-Salmon: NASCO (North Atlantic salmon commission) Mike Fogarty; 

-RFMOs: IATTC, IOTC, ICCAT, (PICES?)

-Pamela: CCAMLR

-International Pacific Halibut Commission (Ana Parma - Steve Hare; DONE but need to be QAQC'd)

We will also aim to include as many of the Top 20 Fisheries in the world, which are:

We also aim to include as many assessments from New Zealand and the tuna commissions as possible in this version.

 Future plans: In future versions of the RAM II database we aim to incorporate updated assessments for all stocks, as well as assessments from additional areas (e.g. Africa, South America, Asia) and species (e.g. anadromous fishes, invertebrates).

 

May, 2009, 4th NCEAS Meeting:

 

-Aim to get stock assessment scientists to routinely calculate a few reference points and submit them to the database.

How to facilitate this? Pamela, Mike, Simon, Trevor et al. to  first decide what reference points they would like and how to define them (Bo, Bmsy, umsy, Fs.......) In addition to reference points, that we get a time series of F and B that corresponds to the reference points (e.g Fmsy / Bmsy as a time series)
