| Abstract | The Ocean Tracking Network (OTN) is a global project headquartered at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. OTN researchers, worldwide are pressing for standards and protocols to allow universal storage and sharing of a broad spectrum of biological and physical oceanographic information. Where animals go, what conditions they experience, how they interact and how individual behaviours change on timescales relevant to climate change is information that scientists and managers need in order to protect and restore ocean productivity. OTN intends to deliver these as part of the permanent monitoring functions of the Global Ocean Observing System. OTN is a pilot project of the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) and is itself organized into 14 ocean regions. Brochure..., Video..., More Images... | ||||||

Comments from IODE and GOOS
It should not be a problem to make this an output from this week's, March 3-5 OTNdmc meeting.
Yours truly, Bob Branton

Hello Keith
Bob already contacted me with regard to OTN and I provided some information on the relevant NODCs. Bob also contacted me with regard to the Argentinian NODC for an OTN meeting. We could indeed go a bit further: IODE will meet in Beijing between 4-8 May. If Bob would like to send me a short document on OTN and maybe propose how IODE could assist OTN then we will certainly put this on the agenda.

Dear Bob,
The page looks fine to me.
I suggest, at some point in the future, that the OTN metadata/data issue be brought to the attention of the IODE - which comprises some 60 national oceanographic data centers, and is the partner GOOS works with to ensure efficient data exchange and long term stewardship for our international/global projects such as OTN. IODE is also in discussion with COML and others about possible future hosting of OBIS, so biological data may become more central to its mandate in the future. The contact for IODE here at IOC is Peter Pissierssens and I have put him in cc on this email.
Best,
Keith

Clicking the following link given below will take you there. The easiest thing for you to do is simply read the page and send comments by return email. Please let us know what you think. Susan and or I will make the approriate changes. Did we get the citation right, are the contacts correct, wording of the abstract, etc ...? If all is good, please let us know that too. In addition, given that this is an 'in work' project, could give us a brief high level status report. We could write this for you, but I think it would be better if you set the tone. I plan to seek out each of the regional contacts do the same for their region.
