The Oceanographic Data Mapper (ODM) is a desktop java based GIS data viewer developed by the Science Applications Division at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO) in Dartmouth Nova Scotia Canada. ODM allows the user to map their own data on top of thematic layers available from the Internet. On this poster we describe how to acquire, install and operate ODM using examples drawn from ongoing biodiversity research activities at BIO, including: cetacean sightings , trawl surveys catches, Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) tracking .
