In early 2005 as a result of an internal review, data management emerged as one of the five central categories of work for Science Sector of DFO. Data management plays a central role in work undertaken in Science to protect the financial investment made in data collection. It provides: • a “secure home” for data in the long term • wider access to basic data for research and advice • opportunity to build multi-disciplinary decision support products.
