Metadata (information about data) is vital to the effective reuse of scientific data. Under the Ocean Biogeographic Information System (OBIS) metadata automation framework, static content from the Global Change Master Directory (GCMD) are combined with dynamic content from OBIS network to create an integrated report for display on the OBIS Portal as well as to update GCMD’s Directory Interchange Format (DIF) database and OBIS’s network of Distributed Generic Information Retrieval (DIGIR) servers.
