CHONe Emerging Opportunities Fund - guidelines

CHONe has established an Emerging Opportunities Fund for the support of new research to fill research gaps identified in the initial CHONe proposal submitted to NSERC in 2007.  This fund is not intended to supplement existing activities but rather to foster new partnerships.

Through consultation with CHONe Network researchers and the Science Advisory Committee, the Network has established several priority areas for funding. Proposals must target at least one of the following:  development of new Network partner linkages and/or strengthening of existing ones; development of new project linkages and/or strengthening of existing ones; and research in emerging areas, i.e., the Arctic, Observatories, etc.)

Other criteria for funding:
• The project must be integrated with and/or enhance existing projects;
• Funding allocations will be modest (in the range of $2K-$10K);
• Leveraging will be essential to the success of a proposal.

Application process:
• Prospective projects must be discussed with the appropriate theme leaders first;
• Applicants must submit a 3-pager with detailed budget (see attached application form);
• Proposals will be reviewed quarterly (1 January, April, July, October) by the SAC and Board;
• All new funding allocations will be subject to funding availability;
• Annual progress reports will be nested within the reporting requirements for the related project.
